Cocoon really loves to fight over a napkin, piece of paper, handkerchief, or anything she could use to line her nest. Originally, she was supposed to have a little house, but for some reason unknown to me, she decided not to sleep in it and instead sleeps right in the middle of the cage, legs up, chattering away in her sleep. She also really loves to gnaw on things, telling me all about her day and such. She recently got a wheel, which squeaks, but she enjoys it tremendously, and when I accidentally wake her and don't pay attention to her immediately, she shortens the time by running miles away in her imagination on her wheel. She's incredibly sweet, and even though she nibbles on me now and then, she loves me and likes to cuddle.
When there's not much time and she starts squeaking for urgent attention, I'll pet her and put her back in the cage, where she contently nibbles on twigs and tries to chew everything that even remotely approaches the cage :) And if I don't have time to hold her, I'll scratch her through the cage bars and start feeding her seed by seed (I had a rat and this method worked well for him too), I think feeding in this sense definitely strengthens the relationship between the owner and the degu.
